About the job

Articore runs Redbubble, TeePublic, Dashery, and Frankly Wearing, several of the largest creator marketplaces in the world — Redbubble's catalog alone exceeds 40 billion SKUs. As a Software Engineer here, you'll design, implement, and maintain the systems that power both marketplaces, working closely with your engineering manager, tech lead, and product partners to ship work that matters across your domain.

The Artist team owns the artist-facing experience across Redbubble and TeePublic - from onboarding and the upload flow through to the artist site, self-serve tools, communications, and the tax and royalty systems that keep artists paid and compliant. The team works across a Ruby on Rails codebase with a React/TypeScript layer for richer interactions. Day-to-day, the team balances feature delivery with a steady stream of BAU and compliance work (e.g. tax reporting, regulatory changes), in close partnership with Product, Legal, and the artist community itself.

Core Responsibilities

Feature development and platform integration: Design, code, test, and deploy software across the team's systems. Lead small to medium-sized initiatives that solve complex problems at scale, in line with Articore’s Engineering Principles and architecture standards.
BAU maintenance and system health: Maintain and uplift existing services, manage tech debt responsibly, and ensure systems are well monitored with up-to-date documentation, under the guidance of the Tech Lead.
Delivery collaboration and technical leadership: Participate in discussions on technical approach and feasibility, collaborate with team leads on discovery and scoping, translate business requirements into technical spikes and deliverables, and participate in team ceremonies including standups, planning, retrospectives, and showcases.
Coaching and people development: Coach and support less experienced engineers in technical development, good engineering practices, and Articore values.
Innovation and roadmap input: Learn new tools, techniques, and technologies to shape opportunities for the business, and provide input into the team's technology roadmap to enable sustainable delivery against company objectives.

Requirements

5-7+ years backend engineering experience, with proficiency in Ruby and/or Go
Strong Ruby on Rails experience, including server-rendered views with ERB in a production codebase
Solid React and TypeScript skills, with experience building and maintaining component-driven front-end applications
Comfortable working across the full front-end stack — from Rails controllers and ERB templates through to modern React components — and choosing the right tool for the job
Nice to have: experience working with Stimulus.js, Turbo, and Ruby View Components
Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and analytics instrumentation (e.g. Amplitude, RudderStack) in a product experimentation context
Experience working with microservices and/or monolith architectures. The team owns a mix of standalone services and a monolith, and is actively migrating components between them, so comfort operating across both patterns is valuable.
Experience using AI tooling in your day-to-day workflow, and curiosity about applying it more deeply.
Demonstrated effectiveness operating in a global company, with the communication, discipline, and async judgment required to keep work moving across time zones.
Curiosity and willingness to explore - the team owns a broad surface area of services across two marketplaces. The right person is energised by digging into systems they haven't seen before rather than deterred by it.
Ability to work independently on features end-to-end with the team's support, from technical spike and scoping through to deployment.
Solid testing and code quality practices, with the ability to uphold engineering standards and contribute to documentation and system health under the guidance of the Tech Lead.
Collaborative and inclusive — engages well across disciplines, gives and receives feedback openly, pairs willingly, and takes real interest in helping less experienced engineers grow.
