LAB49 Principal/Lead Android Engineer

Lab49 is a global consultancy focused on delivering innovative technology solutions for the financial services industry. We work with leading investment banks, asset managers, and financial institutions to solve complex business and technology challenges.

We are looking for a hands-on Android Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership for Android engineering across key workstreams. You will be responsible for technical direction, architecture, engineering standards, and delivery, while remaining deeply involved in implementation and code reviews.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong technical depth, leadership, and the ability to influence engineering decisions across teams.

Lead the technical design, architecture, and implementation of complex Android applications.

Define Android engineering standards, development practices, and architectural patterns.

Drive technical delivery across Android workstreams and ensure high-quality production outcomes.

Conduct detailed code reviews and provide technical guidance to engineers.

Mentor and enable Android engineers across the team.

Partner with architects, product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver scalable solutions.

Drive application performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Contribute to CI/CD, release engineering, and engineering automation.

Identify and resolve complex technical and architectural challenges.

Required Skills & Experience

10+ years of professional software engineering experience , with significant experience in Android development.

Strong expertise in Kotlin, Android SDK, and Jetpack Compose .

Deep understanding of MVVM/MVI and modern Android architecture.

Strong experience with Coroutines , REST APIs, and JSON.

Experience designing scalable and maintainable mobile applications.

Strong understanding of mobile application security and performance.

Experience with CI/CD and modern software engineering practices.

Strong code review, technical leadership, and mentoring capabilities.

Ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders and cross-functional engineering teams.
