Job Description Summary

The Sr. Director, Program Management is responsible for leading the Program Management Office (PMO), driving execution excellence across the organization, and ensuring consistent delivery of strategic software and product development initiatives. This role provides leadership to a team of program managers and execution leaders, establishes and continuously improves governance and operational practices, and partners closely with Product Management, Engineering, Quality, and Regulatory leaders to deliver complex software releases in a highly regulated environment.

This leader will play a critical role in both ensuring successful execution of current programs and shaping the future operating model for program management across the organization. The ideal candidate brings deep experience leading large-scale software development programs within healthcare, MedTech, or medical device along with a demonstrated ability to transform traditional project management environments into more Agile, value-focused organizations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of program managers, establishing clear expectations and building organizational capability in program leadership, Agile execution, stakeholder management, risk management, and delivery excellence.

Drive successful execution of complex software product releases and strategic initiatives, ensuring commitments, milestones, and business objectives are achieved.

Evolve the PMO operating model, methodologies, governance structure, tools, and standard work to increase organizational effectiveness and delivery predictability.

Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership to establish effective portfolio planning, release management, capacity planning, prioritization, and roadmap execution processes.

Enable effective Agile execution across cross-functional teams by improving transparency of work, dependencies, impediments, risks, decisions, and outcomes.

Establish fit-for-purpose governance that integrates Agile software development practices with Quality Management System (QMS), design controls, regulatory requirements, cybersecurity, and other compliance obligations.

Drive portfolio visibility through meaningful metrics, dashboards, and operating reviews focused on outcomes, delivery predictability, risk management, and leadership decision-making.

Lead cross-functional planning and execution of complex strategic programs, ensuring alignment with customer needs, product strategy, and business priorities.

Identify systemic barriers to execution and partner with leaders across Product, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Service, and Commercial functions to implement sustainable improvements.

Facilitate resolution and escalation of complex issues, resource constraints, competing priorities, and cross-functional dependencies.

Champion Lean, Agile, SAFe, and continuous improvement principles to improve organizational effectiveness and eliminate activities that do not create customer or business value.

Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership regarding portfolio health, execution risks, organizational constraints, and opportunities to improve delivery performance.

Create transparency and alignment across all levels of the organization, ensuring teams understand priorities, commitments, decisions, and changes impacting execution.

Build strong partnerships across Product, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Service, and Commercial functions to drive customer and business outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Healthcare, or related field, or equivalent progressive experience.

Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in program management, portfolio management, PMO leadership, product development, or operational excellence.

Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, including managing and developing high-performing teams.

Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional programs and portfolios within a software, SaaS, or technology-driven organization.

Demonstrated experience within healthcare, medical device, or MedTech industry.

Strong working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), design controls, and regulatory requirements applicable to software product development.

Demonstrated experience leading software product development and release programs throughout the full product lifecycle, including roadmap planning, development, release, sustaining, and end-of-life activities.

Strong experience operating within Agile development environments and applying Agile and SAFe principles to portfolio and program execution.

Experience leading organizational transformation from traditional project and program management approaches to Agile and iterative delivery models.

Proven ability to establish governance, operating rhythms, metrics, and execution frameworks that balance speed, compliance, and business needs.

Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, build alignment across stakeholders, and operate effectively within complex matrixed organizations.

Strong executive communication, organizational change leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PMP, PgMP, SAFe, Scrum, Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent professional certifications.

Experience leading a PMO, portfolio management organization, or enterprise-wide transformation effort.

Experience integrating Agile software development with QMS, design controls, regulatory requirements, cybersecurity practices, and release governance.

Experience modernizing traditional program management organizations into product- and value-oriented operating models.

Demonstrated success using portfolio, flow, and delivery metrics to improve organizational performance and business outcomes.

Experience supporting healthcare IT, medical imaging, enterprise imaging, cloud-based software platforms, or complex enterprise software ecosystems.

Strategic leader with a hands-on approach to execution who can establish long-term direction while remaining close enough to the work to remove barriers and enable success.

Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, drive alignment among diverse stakeholders, and foster a culture of accountability, transparency, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

Ideal Candidate Profile

This leader has successfully led a PMO or large-scale program management function supporting software product development within a healthcare, MedTech, or highly regulated environment. They have extensive experience overseeing software release execution, managing teams of program managers, and building governance frameworks that support both compliance and agility. They are equally comfortable influencing senior executives, driving organizational transformation, and improving day-to-day execution across complex cross-functional teams.

For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $172,000.00-$258,000.00 Annual. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
