The engineer will work closely with the AVD Architect, Azure, security, identity, network, application-owner, operations, Microsoft, and Nerdio teams. The role requires strong hands-on AVD engineering, image and application packaging experience, disciplined documentation, and the ability to support users and resolve issues during U.S. Central Time night-shift coverage. Key Responsibilities • Assist the AVD Architect with detailed design validation, build execution, configuration, testing, and production-readiness activities. • Deploy and configure AVD host pools, workspaces, application groups, session hosts, user assignments, and pooled or personal desktop configurations. • Configure and support FSLogix profile containers, Azure Files or Azure NetApp Files integrations, profile policies, permissions, and profile-related troubleshooting. • Create, maintain, version, and validate standardized Windows desktop images for pilot and production environments. • Package, install, test, update, and troubleshoot enterprise applications for AVD, including MSI, MSIX, App Attach, scripts, and application dependencies as applicable. • Work with application owners to validate application versions, installation media, silent-install parameters, licensing, compatibility, and persona-to-application mappings. • Support Microsoft Intune-based application delivery, policy validation, device configuration, and application deployment where required. • Integrate AVD with Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, Conditional Access, MFA, endpoint controls, and privileged access processes in collaboration with security and IAM teams. • Validate network connectivity, DNS, routing, firewall paths, private endpoints, and access to enterprise applications and dependent services. • Configure monitoring and operational visibility using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AVD Insights, and relevant enterprise monitoring tools. • Perform functional, performance, connectivity, application, profile, login, printing, and user-experience testing; document results and defects. • Troubleshoot session-host availability, registration, user sessions, profiles, image, application, policy, connectivity, and performance issues. • Support pilot onboarding, production migration waves, release activities, incident triage, problem management, and hypercare stabilization. Required Technical Skills Azure Virtual Desktop • Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, administering, and troubleshooting Azure Virtual Desktop. • Host pools, workspaces, application groups, session hosts, scaling plans, drain mode, user-session management, and desktop/application assignments. • Pooled and personal desktop models, multi-session Windows, load-balancing approaches, capacity and performance considerations. Profiles, Images and Applications • FSLogix profile containers, profile policies, permissions, storage integration, and troubleshooting. • Windows image engineering, image lifecycle, patching, version control, optimization, sysprep, and validation. • Application packaging and deployment using MSI, MSIX, App Attach, PowerShell, Intune, or equivalent enterprise tools. • Application compatibility analysis, dependency identification, remediation, installation testing, rollback, and documentation. Azure, Identity and Networking • Microsoft Azure compute, storage, networking, monitoring, governance, RBAC, Azure Policy, and Key Vault fundamentals. • Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, group-based assignments, role separation, and least-privilege practices. • VNets, subnets, NSGs, routing, DNS, Azure Firewall, private connectivity, ExpressRoute or VPN concepts, and hybrid access troubleshooting. Operations and customer support • Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AVD Insights, ing, dashboards, and operational health reviews. • Incident, problem, change, release, RCA, knowledge management, and hypercare support processes. • Demonstrated customer support experience working directly with end users, handling support requests, communicating status, troubleshooting remotely, and driving issues through resolution. Soft Skills • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving ability. • Ability to work under the direction of an architect while independently owning assigned engineering deliverables. • Clear documentation and communication skills for client, technical, and operations stakeholders. • Collaborative approach across infrastructure, security, IAM, networking, application, vendor, and service-desk teams. • Calm and accountable handling of incidents, releases, user-impacting issues, and hypercare priorities. • Willingness to work night shift aligned with U.S. Central Time and adapt coverage during critical project milestones.
