EY GDS – Data and Analytics (D&A) – Functional Data Modeller and Analyst – Insurance (Manager)

As part of our EY-GDS D&A (Data and Analytics) team, we help our clients solve complex business challenges with the help of data and technology. We dive deep into data to extract the greatest value and discover opportunities in key business and functions like Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing and Auto, Supply Chain, and Finance

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Manager - Techno-Functional Data Modeller & Business Analyst with deep expertise in Insurance Data Management, Data Modelling, Business Analysis, Reporting & Analytics, Data Governance, and Data Migration.

The successful candidate will lead complex data transformation initiatives, manage stakeholder relationships across business and technology functions, and provide thought leadership in designing enterprise-scale data solutions. This role requires a blend of consulting, delivery leadership, data architecture understanding, and hands-on data vault modelling expertise.

The individual will be responsible for driving data strategy, ensuring delivery excellence, managing client engagements, mentoring teams, and supporting business growth initiatives within the EY Data and Analytics practice.

Your Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Management

Lead requirements workshops, discovery sessions, and data strategy discussions with senior stakeholders.

Build and maintain strong relationships with business sponsors, SMEs, architects, and delivery teams.

Provide strategic recommendations on data platforms, reporting solutions, migration approaches, and governance frameworks.

Support proposal development, solution design, estimations, and client presentations.

Delivery Leadership & Programme Management

Lead end-to-end delivery of data transformation, migration, reporting, and modernization programmes.

Manage multiple workstreams while ensuring alignment with programme objectives, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Proactively identify and mitigate programme risks, issues, and dependencies.

Ensure successful delivery across SIT, UAT, cutover, and production deployment phases.

Business Analysis & Data Consulting

Lead business and data discovery activities across insurance projects.

Translate business requirements into functional specifications, data models, reporting solutions, and transformation requirements.

Conduct impact assessments, gap analysis, and process improvement initiatives.

Define business rules, validation frameworks, reconciliation rules, and data quality controls.

Support operational and strategic decision-making through data-driven insights.

Data Management & Data Governance

Define and implement enterprise data governance standards and best practices.

Drive data quality, metadata management, master data management, and lineage initiatives.

Establish data stewardship processes and governance forums.

Ensure compliance with regulatory and risk management requirements.

Support enterprise data strategy and target-state data architecture initiatives.

Reporting & Analytics

Lead requirements gathering for dashboards, KPIs, scorecards, and analytical solutions.

Design reporting datasets, semantic layers, and reporting data models.

Support self-service BI and data democratization initiatives.

Data Migration & Integration

Create source-to-target mappings, migration strategies, and reconciliation frameworks.

Drive migration governance, issue management, and stakeholder sign-offs.

Collaborate with Data Engineering and Integration teams to ensure successful implementation.

Establish best practices for migration quality, auditability, and controls.

People Leadership & Practice Development

Lead and mentor teams of Data Analysts, Data Modellers, Consultants, and Senior Consultants.

Support recruitment, resource planning, capability development, and performance management.

Provide coaching and technical leadership across client engagements.

Contribute to EY's Data & Analytics practice through accelerators, methodologies, reusable assets, and thought leadership.

Support business development activities, RFP responses, and solution architecture proposals.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Insurance Domain Expertise

Strong understanding of insurance business processes and data structures.

Experience in Policy Administration, Underwriting, Claims, Billing & Finance, Customer Management, Broker Management and Reinsurance

Data Modelling (Mandatory)

Minimum 7+ years of hands-on data modelling experience.

Strong expertise in Data Vault 2.0, Dimensional Modelling, Relational Data Modelling, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Data Architecture

Experience with modelling tools at least in one of the following – Erwin, ER/Studio, SAP PowerDesigner or Lucidchart

Reporting & BI Tools

Hands-on experience with one or more reporting and analytics platforms like Power BI, MicroStrategy (MSTR), Tableau, Qlik Sense/QlikView, SSRS

Technical Skills

Advanced SQL (mandatory)

Strong understanding of Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT Processes, Data Integration, APIs and Data Interfaces

Experience with databases like SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Azure SQL

Exposure to at least one cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Experience

10-15+ years of experience in Data Consulting, Data Management, Business Analysis, Data Migration, and Analytics.

7+ years of Data Modelling experience, including extensive Data Vault 2.0 implementation experience.

Proven experience leading large-scale data transformation and migration programmes.

Experience within the UK Insurance market, including General Insurance, London Market Insurance, Syndicate and MGA environments London Market Insurance
