Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As an Engineer - Build & Validation at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will be accountable for the comprehensive execution of domestic and export validation tests critical to the robustness and compliance of tractors developed within the Farm Division. Your key responsibilities will encompass planning, coordinating, and driving various mechanical and durability tests, ensuring adherence to stringent industry standards including AIS, IS, and ASABE.
You will lead the preparation and calibration of test vehicles, applying expert knowledge in handling sophisticated data acquisition systems (DAQ) such as Ipetronik, Recovib, and V-Box. This role involves close collaboration with multiple departments and external agencies like ARAI, VCA, and CFMTTI to facilitate type approval, certification testing, and homologation processes.
Key deliverables include performing performance and endurance testing of prototype and pre-production units, conducting specialized tests like Torture Track for structural strength validation, Pit Tests for steering systems, and Water Ingress tests. You will also prepare and maintain comprehensive test reports, update internal standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure compliance with safety and NABL laboratory requirements.
Execution and management of milestones will be a critical part of your role, requiring strong project management skills and the ability to manage simultaneous test schedules efficiently while maintaining excellent data integrity for further engineering analysis.
Experience
The ideal candidate will bring 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in the automotive or tractor testing domain. Proven expertise in domestic and export homologation testing for agricultural machinery is highly desirable. Experience working within cross-functional teams to execute validation protocols and manage compliance with Indian and International test standards is essential.
Hands-on experience with data acquisition tools, sensors, and various performance testing equipment is imperative. Familiarity with CAN tools for ECU data acquisition, error checking, and dataset flashing will significantly enhance your ability to deliver effective validation solutions.
Experience in liaising with external certification bodies and test agencies, coupled with demonstrated success in managing extensive and varied testing programs, will be valued. Strong analytical skills to interpret vibration, acceleration, and performance data are crucial for this role.
Industry Preferred
This role is best suited for professionals with a background in the tractor manufacturing industry or closely related agricultural machinery sectors. Experience within companies specializing in farm vehicle production, agricultural implements, or heavy machinery offers advantageous insight into product development lifecycles and compliance standards.
Familiarity with organizations engaged in tractor OEM activities and those with established homologation departments will provide a competitive edge. Engagement with the broader agricultural equipment manufacturing ecosystem, including suppliers of specialized test instrumentation and certification services, is also relevant.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering (BE), or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields. Specialization in automotive, agriculture machinery, or manufacturing process engineering will be considered beneficial.
The academic background should ideally include coursework or hands-on training in vehicle dynamics, testing methodologies, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques. Certifications or formal training related to quality management systems, homologation standards, or laboratory practices are advantageous.
General Requirements
The role demands comprehensive knowledge of tractor durability and performance testing, including homologation standards and regulatory compliance both domestically and internationally. A deep understanding of test protocols spanning from structural endurance to environmental resilience is essential.
Proficiency in using data acquisition instruments such as photoelectric sensors, load cells, fuel flow meters, and thermal cameras, along with software tools including Excel, LabVIEW, and presentation software is expected. An understanding of vibration and acceleration measurement techniques at the vehicle level, coupled with data interpretation skills, is necessary for delivering actionable insights.
A solid grasp of ECU data communication and diagnostic protocols using CAN tools, error detection, and flashing processes will be integral to your daily activities. Moreover, your ability to manage complex test projects, coordinate with external agencies, uphold safety protocols, and maintain NABL lab standards will contribute significantly to the success of the Farm Division’s product development objectives.
