    Before you write a single line of anything technical, you paste a plain-English instruction into Claude Code, tell it to list the files in your project folder, and confirm you are working with the right inputs. The lesson shows you exactly what to type and what good output looks like. If you have never opened a terminal before, the course walks you through it step by step.

  3. Build and export your first sourcing artefact

    By the end of the Market Intelligence chapter you will have produced a market_signals_summary.md file: a formatted category manager briefing that counts signals by type, ranks the three most urgent by time horizon, and maps impacts to your sourcing category. That file is your first portfolio piece, built from real practice data, ready to show a hiring manager or your own leadership team.

A worked example from this program

From four unread reports to an urgent RFQ recommendation in one session

  1. Four market reports land in the shared folder

    A steel price outlook, a tariff update from a trade association, a supply disruption alert for a key manufacturing region, and a supplier capability assessment all arrive in the same week. None has been read. You open Claude Code and tell it to list all files in the market-intelligence folder with a one-line description of each.

  2. Test the extraction on one report before scaling

    You paste a plain-English prompt asking Claude Code to summarise the steel price outlook across five fields: commodity, key finding, time horizon, source, and recommended action. The output returns a specific forecast range and a named procurement step. The finding is concrete and actionable, so you proceed.

  3. Extract all signals from all four reports

    A single prompt instructs Claude Code to read every file and write each signal to market_signals.json as a separate record in the ten-field Market Signal Format you wrote into CLAUDE.md. One report contains three steel-grade signals; Claude Code captures each separately. You verify signal count and field completeness before moving on.

  4. Sort by urgency and identify the top three signals

    You ask Claude Code to sort all signals by time horizon ascending. The steel price increase and the new tariff effective date sit at the top of the table. You note their signal IDs for the summary.

  5. Produce and share the category manager briefing

    Claude Code writes market_signals_summary.md containing a signal count, type breakdown, the three most urgent signals by ID, and the sourcing category impacts. You run the five-point verification checklist, confirm all fields are populated and specific, and share the briefing with your category manager before the steel price moves.
