•Build the SEO + AEO + GEO strategy
•Create a clear, client-specific search strategy for each account, tied to the client's business goals (leads, sales, calls, bookings).
•SEO: set the direction for technical SEO, on-page, content, off-page and local SEO. Decide what gets done, in what order, and why.
•AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): plan how client content gets picked up as direct answers in featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice search and Google AI Overviews. This covers question-led content, FAQ structures, concise answer formatting and schema markup.
•GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): plan how client brands get mentioned, cited and recommended by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. This covers entity building, brand mentions on trusted third-party sites, reviews, digital PR, citation-worthy content and E-E-A-T signals.
•Decide which AI crawlers to allow, and guide the use of llms.txt, structured data and content formats that AI systems can easily read and quote.
•Set strategy for ecommerce challenges: faceted navigation, parameter URLs, duplicate content, out-of-stock products and crawl budget on large catalogs.
•Set strategy for service and local businesses: service pages, location pages, Google Business Profile, citations and reviews.
•Lead keyword, prompt and competitor research to find high-intent opportunities across both search engines and AI platforms.
•Turn your strategy into simple SOPs, checklists and templates that SEO Executives can follow without guesswork.
•Keep up with Google algorithm updates and AI search changes, and update our playbooks when something shifts.
•Own every SEO project end to end
•Lead client onboarding: kickoff call, access setup, goal setting and baseline audit.
•Set realistic KPIs and targets with each client at the start, so everyone agrees on what success looks like.
•Own the ongoing monthly SEO + AEO + GEO work after onboarding, and make sure every deliverable is on time and to standard.
•Spot risks early (traffic drops, ranking losses, missed deliverables, unhappy clients) and fix them before they escalate.
•Guide developers on SEO requirements during website builds, redesigns and platform migrations.
•Lead and grow the SEO team
•Manage a team of SEO Executives: assign work, set priorities and balance workloads across client accounts.
•Review the team's work for quality before it goes live or to the client.
•Train the team on new SEO, AEO and GEO practices, and on the tools we use.
•Hold regular one-on-ones, give honest feedback and help each person grow.
•Set clear individual goals and take part in performance reviews and hiring for the SEO team.
•Plan the work and track progress
•Build a monthly action plan for every client, broken into tasks with owners and deadlines.
•Track all tasks in our project management system and keep it up to date.
•Run weekly team check-ins to review progress, clear blockers and adjust priorities.
•Monitor rankings, traffic, conversions and AI visibility for every account, and act when numbers move.
•Manage client relationships
•Lead client meetings: monthly reviews, strategy calls and ad hoc discussions.
•Listen to client concerns, understand what matters to their business and respond with a clear plan.
•Present the work done and the results produced in simple, business-focused language.
•Explain what's working, what isn't and what we will do next month.
•Build long-term trust that leads to client retention and upsell opportunities.
•Work across teams
•Work with content writers so content is written for search intent, answer engines and AI citation.
•Work with developers on technical fixes, Core Web Vitals, schema and site speed.
•Align with the PPC team so paid and organic strategies support each other.
•Support the sales team with SEO audits, proposals and strategy inputs for new prospects.
To Be Clear About This Role
This is a strategy and leadership role, not an execution role. You will not be expected to write meta tags, build links or update pages yourself. Your SEO Executives handle that.
What we expect from you is the thinking behind the work: the right strategy, a clear plan the team can follow, quality control, and results you can explain to a client with confidence. You should still understand execution deeply enough to review it, correct it and teach it.
What You Need to Bring
•5-7 years of SEO experience, with at least 2 years leading a team of SEO executives or specialists.
•A proven track record of growing rankings, organic traffic and leads or revenue for client websites. Be ready to show real case studies.
•Hands-on knowledge of AEO and GEO: how AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity choose which sources to cite, and what you have done to get brands mentioned there.
•Strong command of technical SEO: crawling, indexing, site architecture, JavaScript SEO, structured data, Core Web Vitals and site migrations.
•Experience with ecommerce SEO on platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento or BigCommerce.
•Experience with local SEO for service businesses, including Google Business Profile and location pages.
•Solid understanding of content strategy, search intent, topical authority, E-E-A-T and link building.
•Proven experience managing multiple client projects at the same time, with clear plans, deadlines and tracking.
•Confidence leading client meetings and presenting results to business owners and marketing managers.
•Excellent spoken and written English, as most of our clients are in the US and UK.
•Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript, enough to review code and brief developers.
•A strong analytical mind: you can turn data into a clear decision.
•Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Marketing or a related field.
Good to Have
•Agency experience serving US or UK clients.
•Experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to speed up research, audits, content briefs and reporting.
•Experience tracking brand visibility in AI answers with AI visibility tools.
•Digital PR or brand-mention campaigns that earned coverage on authority sites.
•Google Analytics or Google Ads certifications.
•Experience building SOPs or training programs for an SEO team.
