Job Description – Shift Supervisor

Position: Shift Supervisor – Chemical Process Plant

Experience: 5–6 years of relevant experience in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Hydrometallurgical Process Industries

Qualification: B. Tech / B.E. in Chemical Engineering

Job Purpose:

Responsible for managing shift operations, ensuring safe and efficient plant performance, monitoring process parameters, coordinating manpower and maintenance activities, and achieving production targets as per approved process and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supervise complete shift-wise plant operations and ensure smooth and safe production.
Monitor process parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH, flow, level, vacuum, steam pressure, and chemical dosing.
Operate and supervise equipment including:
RCVD – Rotary Cone Vacuum Dryer
ANFD – Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryer
Multi-Stage Evaporation System
Reactors and agitators
Filter presses
Centrifuges
Pumps and chemical dosing systems
Storage and process tanks
Ensure proper start-up, operation, shutdown, flushing, and cleaning of process equipment.
Monitor evaporation, filtration, drying, crystallization, precipitation, leaching, and other chemical process operations.
Ensure correct chemical charging and dosing according to SOPs, batch sheets, and process requirements.
Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, QC/QA, EHS, and Utility teams to resolve operational issues.
Identify process deviations and take immediate corrective action within the approved operating procedures.
Monitor equipment condition and coordinate with the maintenance team for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and equipment availability.
Ensure proper utilization and deployment of shift manpower.
Conduct shift handover and maintain accurate production, process, equipment, and chemical consumption records.
Ensure compliance with SOPs, GMP requirements where applicable, EHS procedures, PPE requirements, and chemical handling standards.
Monitor steam, cooling water, vacuum, compressed air, electrical power, and other utility requirements.
Ensure proper housekeeping and 5S practices throughout the production area.
Support troubleshooting of process and equipment-related problems and implement corrective actions.
Prepare daily shift reports and communicate production status, abnormalities, and pending activities to the Production Manager.

Technical Knowledge Required:

The candidate should have good practical knowledge of:

- RCVD operation and troubleshooting
ANFD operation
Multi-stage evaporation systems
Reactor and agitator operation
Filter press and filtration systems
Centrifuge operation
Vacuum systems
Steam and utility systems
Chemical dosing and transfer systems
Precipitation and crystallization processes
Leaching and solid-liquid separation
Process parameter control
P&ID and process flow diagram interpretation

Hydrometallurgy Experience – Preferred

Candidates with experience in hydrometallurgical processes such as leaching, precipitation, purification, filtration, crystallization, evaporation, and drying will be preferred.

Experience with battery recycling / metal recovery / lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, aluminium, or other metal-processing operations will be an added advantage.
