About the role

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer Lead to lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-performance backend applications. This role combines hands-on engineering with team leadership, overseeing a team of 4–8 developers while actively contributing to coding, architecture, and technical decision-making. The ideal candidate will drive engineering best practices, conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software. Working closely with Product, QA, and DevOps teams, you will help define technical strategy, solve complex challenges, and deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions that support business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical leadership

Own the architecture and design of Java-based microservices and backend applications.
Define coding standards, design patterns, and best practices, and enforce them through code reviews.
Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies; drive modernization and technical-debt reduction.
Make sound trade-offs between performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.

Team leadership and mentoring

Lead, guide, and mentor a team of developers; run regular 1:1s and support career growth.
Break down requirements into technical tasks, estimate effort, and assign work.
Take part in hiring: interviews, technical assessments, and onboarding of new engineers.
Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Hands-on development

Write clean, efficient, well-tested code using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
Design and build RESTful APIs and event-driven services (Kafka or similar).
Optimize application and database performance; troubleshoot complex production issues.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with the DevOps team.

Delivery and collaboration

Work with product owners and business analysts to refine requirements and define acceptance criteria.
Lead Agile ceremonies with the Scrum Master: sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Track delivery, flag risks early, and keep stakeholders informed of progress.
Ensure releases meet quality, security, and compliance standards.
