About the job

If you’re looking for further opportunities to develop your career, take the next step in fulfilling your potential right here at HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world, with operations in 58 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realize their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of  Head of Fraud Business Intelligence and Insights.

The Opportunity

Fraud and Credit Services (FCS) is a key International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) control function, enabling sustainable growth through proportionate, effective controls across the customer lifecycle. Its fraud and money mule management function combines technology, analytics optimisation and operational expertise to prevent, detect and respond to emerging threats, protecting customers and the Bank from fraud, financial crime and associated Anti Money Laundering (AML) risks. Customer experience remains central, with controls designed to minimize unnecessary friction and provide timely, empathetic support and resolution. FCS partners with business, product, compliance and risk teams to strengthen controls and deliver consistent, intelligence-led outcomes across markets and channels.

In this role, you will:

The Head of Fraud Business Intelligence leads the global intelligence, analytics, operations and performance agenda for retail fraud and money mule risk. The role translates data, customer insight and emerging threat intelligence into stronger controls, efficient delivery and measurable customer, risk and business outcomes.
The role establishes global standards for management information, performance reporting, rule optimisation, and model governance fraud prevention. It defines key performance and risk indicators, identifies material trends and control gaps, challenges underperformance, and coordinates timely remediation with accountable owners.
The role holder maintains a forward-looking view of the threat landscape through proactive horizon scanning—including AI-enabled scams, synthetic identities, deepfakes, voice cloning, social engineering and evolving mule typologies. It converts this insight into strategic threat assessments, detection priorities, control design and investment decisions, considering the potential customer and financial impact of emerging risks. It promotes responsible use of analytics optimisation, automation and machine learning, with appropriate governance, validation, monitoring and explainability.
In partnership with fraud operations the role holder oversees demand, capacity, productivity, service quality and customer outcomes, driving continuous improvement across end-to-end processes. This includes reducing unnecessary customer friction, improving decision accuracy, and accelerating case resolution while maintaining operational resilience and robust risk management. Operational insights and customer feedback will inform ongoing control optimisation.
The role provides concise, decision-focused reporting to senior governance forums on emerging threats, control effectiveness, operational performance, customer impact and investment priorities. It strengthens intelligence networks, shares insights across markets and promotes consistent good practice, adapting implementation proportionately to local regulatory, customer and threat conditions.
Through this leadership, the role strengthens the organization’s ability to anticipate and disrupt fraud, protect customers and the Bank, improve operational effectiveness, and deliver sustained, evidence-based enhancement of the fraud control environment.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Business performance, executive insight and Management Information (MI): Own the global fraud and money mule performance framework, including consistent metrics, targets, dashboards, forecasting, loss and recovery analysis, control effectiveness, customer impact and executive reporting. Assess the quality and timeliness of MI from control operators and produce accurate, decision-useful reporting for Group submission and senior governance forums.
Fraud and mule intelligence: Build a global view of typologies, networks, attack vectors and emerging trends by combining internal data, cyber intelligence, external intelligence and market insight; translates findings into prioritized action.

Leadership and influence: Lead a geographically dispersed team and influence senior stakeholders across markets, Second Line of Defense (SLOD), Third Line of defense (TLOD), Technology and Operations.
Governance and assurance: Provide transparent reporting on performance, control gaps, model or rule deterioration, emerging threats and remediation; escalate material risks promptly through appropriate governance forums.
