About the job

ABOUT Agnikul Cosmos is a company incubated at IIT Madras and we build rockets that can take satellites up to 500 kg to Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). In May 2024, we successfully completed our maiden launch from our own launchpad (India's first private launchpad). The launch has proven all the new technologies developed by Agnikul and also earned recognition from Honourable Prime Minister of India. We are looking for an Embedded Linux Engineer who can work hands-on across Linux kernel, BSP development, board bring-up and hardware-software integration. The ideal candidate should be comfortable debugging at the system level, working with custom Linux builds, device drivers and bootloaders, and solving performance and reliability issues on embedded platforms. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, customize, test and maintain Embedded Linux OS for custom hardware platforms. Work on Linux kernel internals including scheduling, interrupts, synchronization, memory, filesystems, networking, power management and modules. Develop and maintain BSP components including bootloader, kernel configuration, device tree, root filesystem and platform enablement. Build and maintain custom Linux distributions using Yocto/BitBake, Buildroot or PetaLinux, including recipes, patches and configurations. Perform board bring-up and hardware-software integration across interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet and PCIe. Develop and debug Linux device drivers and kernel modules, and troubleshoot issues using logs, dmesg and other debugging tools. Work with U-Boot, ARM Trusted Firmware, boot sequences, secure boot and software update mechanisms. Optimize system performance, reliability and real-time behaviour through benchmarking, resource utilization, power and performance tuning. Collaborate with hardware, firmware and software teams for integration, testing, production readiness, security, documentation and continuous improvement. Requirements 3-6 years of experience in Embedded Linux development, BSP development, Linux kernel or a similar embedded systems role. Strong understanding of Linux kernel architecture, device drivers, kernel modules, device tree and embedded Linux fundamentals. Hands-on experience with Yocto/BitBake, Buildroot or PetaLinux and custom Linux OS/BSP development. Experience with board bring-up, bootloaders such as U-Boot, ARM Trusted Firmware and hardware-software integration. Good understanding of embedded interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet and PCIe, with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills. Experience with Linux performance optimization, benchmarking, reliability and real-time systems. Good understanding of processor/SoC architecture, embedded hardware, security considerations and production-level system development.
